Paquin, Gladys – Large Jar with Interlocking Clouds (1985)

11.5"w x 10"h

$ 1,500.00

Gladys Paquin was one of the great revivalist potters of Laguna Pueblo.  Each piece was coil-built, painted with bee-weed (black) and native clay slips, and traditionally fired.  This large jar has a round shoulder and a short neck.  The neck of the jar has swirling clouds. There is a rainbow around the top of the shoulder in a series of triangles.  Below are an interlocking series of clouds with small rainclouds attached.  The jar is tightly patined and uses the open space of the white clay to accentuate her designs.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Gladys Paquin, Sratyu’we”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
