This is a classic large water jar by Robert Patricio.  Robert is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and prehistoric imagery. This piece is coil-built from native clay and is thin-walled. It has a high shoulder and a sloping neck. The body of the jar has large flower medallions. They are separated by fine-line rain designs. There are additional thin lines on the flowers. There is a lot of delicate detail in the designs on the jar! The use of the open white space draws the eye to the complexity of the thin lines and angular designs. It is a tightly painted and complex piece! Robert is one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today, evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs. The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.
