This is a classic large jar by Robert Patricio. Robert is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and pre-historic imagery. This piece is coil-built from native clay and thin-walled. It has a high shoulder and short neck. The jar is entitled, “Path of the Ancestors”. There are four rows of “pathway” designs. Separating them are triangular patterns with rain lines. The jar has orange and red clays to accentuate the colorations. Robert is one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today, evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs. The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”. The jar received the prestigious “Dominique Toya Memorial Award for Excellent in Pueblo Pottery” award at the 2025 Santa Fe Indian Market.
