Patricio, Robert – “The Return” Jar with Eight Birds and Rain Designs

8"w x 8.5"h

$ 1,500.00

This is a new jar by Robert Patricio.  The jar is painted with bee-weed and two clay slips.  The jar has a tall shape and it is coil-built.  The design is the rain along the rim with the fine-lines.  Above the birds is a red “sunset” band.   The body of the jar has eight birds around the shoulder.  Each bird is either painted red or tan clay in coloration.  Below the birds are additional rain clouds.  Robert says the jar represents the birds returning in the spring.  The thin lines, detail, and variety of colors on the jar create an exceptionally intricate piece!  The base is painted with red clay.  It is signed on the bottom, “R.  M.  Patricio”.  The jar is an exciting extension of his clay artistry and continues the amazing Acoma legacy.

Robert said recently of his pottery:

““The pottery inspires me to keep going.  Keeping the tradition alive in making pottery, that’s how we were brought up.  Our ancestors started making pottery.  It’s amazing what comes of a piece of clay. When you come to Acoma it’s peacuful and quite.  When you look a piece of pottery, you see the same peacefulness.”   Robert Patricio, 2020
