Pavatea, Garnet – Open Bowl with Bird Design (1978)

8.5"w x 3.25"h

$ 500.00

Garnet Pavatea is one of the great names in Hopi-Tewa pottery.  She created traditional Hopi pottery, but was also well known for her corrugated pieces.  This open bowl is a striking piece of her pottery.  The outside is polished red while the inside is the natural clay coloration.  There is a large bird and bird tail design painted on the inside.  The bird is painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip.  It was traditionally fired so there are some fireclouds.  It is signed on the bottom, “Garnet Pavatea” and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
