Peynetsa, Agnes – Duck Effigy Jar with Raised Frog and Lizards (2001)

5.5" long x 4"h

$ 350.00

Agnes Peynetsa (b. 1962) began making pottery in 1984.  She is the daughter of Charles and Wilma Peynetsa, wife of Berdel Soseech.  She is the sister of Priscilla Peynetsa and Anderson Peynetsa.  Agnes learned pottery making from Jennie Laate and her brother and sister. This piece is a duck effigy.  It is made from white Zuni clay and is a very complex piece for its size.  The duck has its head turned and the tail is curled.  On the head is a rainbird and the front has a classic Zuni rosette.  The sides have cloud and rain designs.  The back has two raised frogs, one raised lizard and there is even a little frog on the tail!  It is a charming piece of her pottery.  The designs are highlighted with black, red, and white clay slips.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Agnes Peynetsa ’01”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
