This is a classic jar by Al Qoyawayma.  The shape is one that was created by his aunt, Elizabeth White.  She would call it a “wish vase” shape.  The jar is made from traditional Hopi clay.  The surface is fully polished to a high shine and then fired.  It has a striking deep orange coloration.  The photos really don’t do it justice!  The jar is signed, “Al Q.” on the bottom, It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  The jar was a gift to a friend, so it is also inscribed “Mary” on the bottom.
