Quotskuyva, Dextra – Mini Bowl with Hummingbird Tail Designs (1982)

2.75"w x 1.5"h

This is an incredibly intricate miniature by Dextra Quotskuyva.   It was made in the early 1980s and has a round body.  The bowl is thin-walled and painted with bee-weed (black) and polished red areas.  The design has a stylized hummingbird in two sections.  They are separated by bird wing designs.  Note near the bottom of the bowl the THIN lines for all the different bird wings!  It’s amazing in the precision for the size.  It was traditionally fired so that there are blushes and color variations around the surface.  It is signed on the bottom with bee-weed, “Detra” with an ear of corn representing the Corn Clan.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  Dextra has been the subject of a retrospective of her pottery at the Wheelwright called, “Painted Perfection“.
