Red Starr, Elmer – 15″ Wide Bowl with Sun, Bear, Wovles, Eagle, Goat, Buffalo and 51 Inset Turquoise

This is a massive and striking large bowl by Red Starr (Sioux). He was married to Santa Clara potter Harriet Tafoya and learned to make Santa Clara pottery. This bowl is fully polished and fired red. The bowl has a large Sun design, and there are five panels of realistic animal designs. There is a bear, wolves, eagle, buffalo, and Mountain goat. They are each separated by bear paw and eagle feather designs. Near the base are etched heartline Bears, feathers, and geometric designs. It is an amazginly complex piece for the size! Across the surface of the bowl are 51 inset pieces of turquoise. The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Red Starr”. It is from 2006 and there is a photo of him holding the piece.
