Rickey, Marcia – Large Red and White Open Bowl with Hopi Bird (1960s) Ribbon
$ 1,800.00
Marcia Rickey was a potter from Second Mesa at Hopi. She was known by her hallmark as “Flying Ant Woman”. This is one of her iconic open bowls with a red exterior and white interior. The interior is white slipped and has a classic bird swirling around the center. It is painted with bee-weed (black) and polished red areas. Note the complexity of the design with the thin lines and checkerboard pattern. The outside is slipped red and painted with bird wing designs. Again, there is exceptional line work on the exterior. The bowl is signed on the bottom with her flying ant hallmark. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. There is a blue ribbon from the Arizona State Fair.
