Ryan Roller is a grandson of Toni Roller and a son of Jeff Roller. He has been making pottery since he was a child it is his recent work that has risen to a new level of sophistication in form, polish, carving, and firing techniques. This is a set of five pieces of his pottery. There is a long neck water jar with a handle and four “cups”. Each piece is made from Native Clay, carved, stone polished and traditionally fired. The jar has cloud, water, mountain, and rain designs. Each of the four cups has a different design. There is a walking bear paw, avanyu, lightning, and clouds. It is an exceptional use of form and design. Ryan’s pieces are stone polished and he gets an exceptional even tonality to the surface of his work. Each piece is signed, “Ryan Roller”. They are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

WOW! This is a spectacular large double shoulder water jar by Ryan Roller. Ryan is a grandson of Toni Roller and a son of Jeff Roller. He has been making pottery since he was a child it is his recent work that has risen to a new level of sophistication in form, polish, carving, and firing techniques. This new jar has an elegant form with a double shoulder and elongated neck. The neck is deeply carved with a feather design. The double shoulder or “rainbow ridge” is fully polished. The bottom of the jar has carved cloud, rain and kiva step designs. The jar is stone polished to a high shine and traditionally fired to a brown coloration. The feathers on the neck are etched on the edge. On the shoulder Ryan lightly etched an avanyu. Note how he took away just enough of the polished surface but left the red! Stunning! There are additional etched areas accenting the carved designs. The jar is deeply carved with precision! Simply. Stunning! It is signed, “Ryan Roller”.

Ryan Roller is certainly one of the young potters to watch. He learned to make pottery from his grandmother, Toni Roller, and his father, Jeff Roller. While he has been making pottery since he was a child it is his recent work which has risen to a new level of sophistication in form, polish, carving and firing techniques. Ryan has created very distinctive forms for his pottery which are inspired by more traditional shapes.
