$ 900.00

Toni Roller is known for her classic shapes and exquisite stone-polished pottery.  She is a daughter of Margaret Tafoya and has developed her own distinctive style yet adhering to the traditional methods and techniques of her mother.  This jar is from 2010.  It is a “gourd” jar, with the name derived from the gourds used to smooth out the clay during the building process. There are eight deeply indented areas that represent the gourd.  This style of jar is more difficult to stone polish, as there are lots of rounded and curved areas and it must all be polished at the same time!  However, the results are striking with a glassy surface!  It was traditionally fired and it is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Toni Roller”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
