Diego Romero was one of the potters around 1990 to break away from more classic shapes and styles of pottery. He returned to a pre-contact style of Mimbres culture (1100’s in southwest New Mexico) and was inspired by the open bowl shape. This small jar is from 1994 and it is from the collection of gallerist Robert Nichols. The jar is in the style of ancient Ho-hokam pottery. It is painted with stylized designs and has polished base. There is small note that it was a gift to Robert from July 1994. The jar is signed, “Diego Romero”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. An interesting piece of early Diego Romero pottery history!
