Exceptional!  Tonita Roybal remains one of the great innovative names in San Ildefonso pottery.  This is an exceptional piece of her pottery from the 1920s.  The jar is coil-built and stone polished.  The shape has a slight shoulder and sloping sides.  The piece is very tightly painted with a clouds and rain over the mesas.  The design is released four times across the top.  Typical of her designs, there is a lot of open space, allowing the shine of the polishing to show through.  The jar was fired to a silvery gunmetal coloration.  It just seems to shimmer.  The piece is signed, “Tonita”.  It is in excellent condition with condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  On the bottom you may notice two tags.  They are inventory numbers from the collection of Dick Howard.  It is also featured in the 2007 catalog entitled, “Tonita Roybal” on p. 17.
