Sahmie, Ida – Bowl with Four Directions Corn Plants and Cloud Rim

6.25"w x 3"h

$ 875.00

This is a creative bowl by Ida Sahmie.  The piece has a sharp shoulder and it is fully stone polished on the outside.  The outside has a cloud pattern.  The inside has four stalks of corn each painted in a different color to represent the four directions.  The bottom of the bowl is stippled with black (bee-weed) to have a “splattered” appearance representing the earth.  The bowl was painted with bee-weed and clay slips and the white corn stalk was incised.  It is signed on the bottom, “Ida Sahmie 2024”.   Ida is the only Navajo potter creating this unique style of ethnographic pottery that captures the stories and world of Dine symbolism.
