Salazar, Frances – Polychrome Bowl with Rain Designs (1950s)

5.5"w x 3.5"h

$ 175.00

Santa Clara potter Frances Salazar was known for her highly polished traditional pottery.  This bowl is from the 1950s.  It is a classic bowl that is polished red and then painted with additional clay slips. There are four different colors of clay used on the bowl for the design.  There are clouds around the rim and rain and lightning patterns around the shoulder.  The blue-gray coloration is a coloration used in the 1950s but not that much later.  It definitely gives the piece a distinctive appearance! The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Frances Salazar”.  It still has the original price tag of “$27.50” on the bottom!  Definitely a great piece of Pueblo history!
