Desideria Montoya Sanchez was a sister of noted potter Maria Martinez.  She was known for her traditional pottery and use of both classic and innovative designs. This jar has a sharp shoulder and sloping side.  The design has interlocking bird wings on one side and then sections with stylized birds.  The bowl is highly polished and fired a deep black.  The bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Desideria”.
