Sanchez, Russell – Black and Green Jar with Avanyu and Lid (2005)

2.75"w x 5"h (w/ lid)

$ 1,800.00

Russell Sanchez continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery.  Each piece is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  The shape of this jar was inspired by the work of Russell’s great-aunt, Rose Gonzales. The jar has a round body and an elongated neck. The piece is fully polished, and an etched micaceous avanyu is along the top of the shoulder. The neck is triple-toned sienna and green.  There are three bands of shell hei-shi beads.  The jar has a fully polished black lid.   Both the lid and the jar are signed with Russell’s kayak hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
