This is a classic water jar by Russell Sanchez.  The jar is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  Russell said the name of the piece was “Constellation”.  The name comes from the 103 pieces of turquoise on the top of the shoulder of the jar.  Russell inset them to look like stars in the shape of an avanyu in the night sky!  Above the avanyu are three rows of turquoise hei-shi beads and two bands of copper leafing.  Above the top row of hei-shi, the neck is slipped with mica and there are insets with 25 hematite stones.  Below the shoulder, the jar has a gourd-style impression with sixteen indentions. The result is an undulating, polished base with the gourd sections beautifully reflecting the light!   The inside rim is two-toned sienna after the firing.  All the stones were also inset after the firing.   The jar is signed, “Russell”.
