Russell Sanchez continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery. Each piece is coil-built, stone-polished, and etched. This bowl by Russell is from the 1990s. It is coil-built and there are five small circles that are slipped white and surrounded by shell hei-shi beads. There is a single large medallion in the center with an incised bear and an inset piece of coral. Note the natural color of the clay is more pinkish, which is a clay that Russell used for a short time and one that he found near Abiquiu, NM. The remainder of the bowl is polished white and has green clay “streaks”. It is a creative bowl! The bowl was traditionally fired. The piece is signed, “Russell Sanchez”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
