Sanchez, Russell – Multi-Color Bowl with Clouds, Lid, and Turuqoise (2002)

Russell Sanchez continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery.  Each piece is perfectly coil-built, stone-polished, and etched.  This bowl has four carved half-medallions that are polished red.  They are each polished green.  The star pattern on the top is slipped with a matte mauve colored-clay.  On the side, there is a carved band that is also slipped with mauve clay and has a row of turquoise hei-shi beads above and below.  The base of the bowl is polished red and has additional cloud designs.  The bowl has a lid that is polished red with a single piece of turquoise set on top.  The mauve-colored clay that Russell used around 2000-2.  The piece was traditionally fired.  It is signed, “Russell Sanchez”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
