Shields, Ethel – Bird Effigy Bowl

10" long x 4.5"h

$ 600.00

Ethel Shields (b. 1928) is a daughter of Dolores Sanchez and the mother of Charmae Natseway and Judy Shields.  While she no longer makes pottery, she was known for her figurative works over the years.  This is a bird effigy jar.  Amazingly, the head and neck are hollow and part of the coil building of the piece!  The bowl is painted with bee-weed and has fine-line wings and a lightning design on the inside of the bowl.  It is not just a creative form but nicely painted to match the form.  It is signed on the bottom, “Ethel”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
