6.75"w x 7.25"h

$ 600.00

Ethel Shields (1926-2021) was a daughter of Dolores Sanchez and the mother of Charmae Natseway and Judy Shields.  She was known for her figurative works over the years.  This is one of her larger storytellers. The figure is coil-built and hollow.  It is holding eight children with four on the front and four on the back.  The piece is intricately painted with bee-weed and red clay slips. There are traditional designs on the arms and shirtsleeves.  Each of the children is painted with different designs on their clothes!   It is not just a creative form but nicely painted to match the form.  It is signed on the bottom, “Ethel”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
