Shupla, Helen – Large Square Carved Bowl with Pueblo and Rain Designs (1960s)

Helen Shupla is certainly most famous for her exceptional melon jars. However, she is also known for her creative carved and painted vessels. This bowl is square in shape with flat sides. It is carved with a Pueblo design on two sides (the building with the circular windows). The opposite side has rian and lightning patterns. The entire surface is fully polished and it was fired a glassy black coloration. The bowl is from the late 1990s and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Helen, Santa Clara Pueblo”.
