Spencer, Lorenzo – Jar with Bird Designs (1995)

4.75"w x 5"h

$ 200.00

Lorenzo Spencer is one of the few Navajo male potters.  He learned to make pottery from his mother-in-law, Rose Williams.  This jar is coil built and stone polished.  The design of a bird is etched into the clay four times around the neck of the piece.  The birds are slipped brown.  The jar was traditionally fired and after the firing, it was covered in pinon pitch, in the manner of historic Navajo pottery.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Lorenzo Spencer”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
