This is a large carved bowl by Anita Suazo.  She is a daughter of noted potter Belen Tapia.  This is one of her traditional vessels with deeply carved sections.  It is what she calls her “Sunflower” design.  The bowl has 16 carved sections on the top, 16 in the center, and 16 on the bottom extending up from the base.  There are a total of 48 carved sections on this jar that interconnect from top to bottom! Each of the sections is stone polished to a high shine.  The piece was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Anita Suazo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
