Sunn, Mabel – 10″ Bowl with Mountain Designs (1950’s)

10.25"w x 7"h

$ 450.00

This is a large fully polished bowl by Mabel Sunn from the 1950s. The piece is made using a paddle-and-anvil technique and fired twice.  The black designs are derived from a mixture of mesquite sap and cactus spines.  Today, there are very few Maricopa artists making pottery.   Mabel was well-known for the relief snakes and frogs on her pottery. This bowl is a more classic shape polished on the inside and outside.  The bowl is painted with hatchwork cloud patterns and larger mountain designs.  The bowl is signed on the bottom, ‘Mabel Sunn”.   It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
