Celes Tafoya was a daughter of Legoria Tafoya and a nice of Pablita Velarde and Jane Baca. She often worked in collaboration with her mother, Legoria Tafoya, until her death in 1984. She also worked with her daughter Evelyn Tafoya. This round bowl is carved with an avanyu as the design encircling the piece. Note how as the piece is turned the body of the avanyu has a complicated form with a lot of angles and swirls. The entire bowl is polished and fired a deep black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Celes & Evelyn”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Note how as the piece is turned there are cloud designs extending down from the rim and mesa designs up from the bottom band of design. The entire bowl is polished and fired a deep black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Celes & Evelyn”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
