Tafoya Dasheno, Rosita – Polychrome Bowl with Rain Clouds (1950s)

3"w x 2"h

$ 95.00

Rosita Tafoya (1919-2013) was a daughter of noted potter Severa Tafoya.  She was a sister of Angela Baca.  She made very little pottery during her career. This is a small bowl, but very intricately painted.  There are cloud and lightning designs.  In the white area which outlines the designs, she added small dots of the tan color clay!  The piece is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed, “Rosita”.  Interestingly, there is one of her paintings in the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian from 1936 when she was in the Santa Fe Indian School (click here to see the painting).
