Doug Tafoya (Cain) (b. 1942) is a son of noted potter Mary Cain and grandson of Christina Naranjo.  He is a brother of Tina Diaz, Linda Cain, Joy Cain, and Billy Cain.  This bowl is coil-built and carved with a bear on one side and a bear paw on the opposite side.  The piece is fully polished.  Note the background area is slipped with the traditional white clay.  The bowl was traditionally fired to a glassy red coloration.  The jar is signed, “Doug Tafoya”.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  While Doug no longer makes pottery, his work is a striking reflection of the Cain family style.
