Tafoya, Jennifer – Dragon and Dragonflies Water Jar
This is a classic wide shoulder water jar by Jennifer Tafoya. It has a wide shoulder and a slightly turned out rim. The entire piece is fully polished even down the inside of the neck! The jar is etched around the top of the piece with a very intricately designed dragon. The dragon is intricately etched and note the precision on the face and all the scales! Jennifer said she depicted the dragon in the cloud so it is surrounded by small birds. The rolling clouds and their coloration is a dramatic part of this larger jar! The bottom has traditional dragonflies surrounded by the clouds. The story is that dragonflies are “prayer messengers” and carry prayers to the clouds. The highly polished surface is a perfect background to this intricate jar. All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.
