Jennifer Moquino is known for her clay vessels and also her amazing animal figures. This turtle slipped with green clay. Did you know the green is a clay that is found in New Mexico that is high in copper content? On this piece, the back is fully polished. There is an avanyu and four small turtles. Each turtle is slipped with different colors. Note that there are traditional Pueblo feathers with a lighting design and diagonally there are more realistic feathers. She has additional designs on the feet and neck. For a small piece, it is wonderfully complex. All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. It is signed “JT”.
