Tafoya, Jennifer – Long Neck Butterflies & Avanyu Jar
This wide shoulder jar by Jennifer Tafoya has an elongated neck. The jar is fully polished and fired black. It is fully etched on the top with a variety of butterflies and flowers. The butterflies are highly detailed and appear to be in motion. Note the background area which is not just etched with little circles but also slipped with mica! The bottom of the jar has an avanyu etched into the clay using the negative space. It is surrounded by prayer feathers and pollen. There are various depths to the etching on the bottom of the jar! It is a very colorful jar and full of movement! All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.
