Tafoya, LuAnn – Small Bear Paw Jar (1981)
This is a small fully polished jar by LuAnn Tafoya. She is known for her highly polished traditional Santa Clara pottery. This jar has an impressed bear paw on each side and they are fully polished. The bowl was fired to a glossy black coloration. The bear paw is part of a pueblo story about how a bear led the Pueblo people to water during a drought. It is considered a very positive design. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “L. Tafoya”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Definitely a piece of history in clay!
