Lucy Year Flower was known for her creative pottery. This bowl is coil-built, and there are three rows of corrugated indentations on the shoulder. The area above and below is fully polished. There is an etched hummingbird and flower scene near the base of the piece. The bowl is from the 1970’s. The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed, “Lucy Year Flower”.

Lucy Year Flower was known for her creative pottery. This mini jar is highly polished and fired a deep black. The rim has been two-toned so that it is sienna. It is from the 1970’s. The piece is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed, “Lucy Year Flower” on the bottom. The piece is from Richard Spivey’s estate, and the number on the bottom is how he kept track of his pieces. I have left the tag on the bottom.

Lucy Year Flower Tafoya was born in Pojoaque Pueblo and married Jose Tafoya of Santa Clara. She was a daughter-in-law of Camilio Tafoya and a sister-in-law of Joseph Lonewolf and Grace Medicine Flower. She began making pottery in the 1970's and her pieces combined carved designs and some sgraffito on the surface. She won numerous awards for her carved pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market and other events.
