Lucy Year Flower was known for her creative pottery. This small seedpot is fully polished. It is etched on one side with a flower and a butterfly. The other side has a hummingbird. They are very lightly etched into the clay before it was fired. The seedpot is from the 1970’s. The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed, “Lucy Year Flower”.

Lucy Year Flower Tafoya was born in Pojoaque Pueblo and married Jose Tafoya of Santa Clara. She was a daughter-in-law of Camilio Tafoya and a sister-in-law of Joseph Lonewolf and Grace Medicine Flower. She began making pottery in the 1970's and her pieces combined carved designs and some sgraffito on the surface. She won numerous awards for her carved pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market and other events.
