Madeline Tafoya (1912-2002) was known for her carved and polished pottery.  This is one of her classic pieces in both form and design.  The piece was made in 1991.  She was well-known for making the “engagement basket” style of pottery.  It is a bowl with a twisted handle.  On this piece, the bowl is deeply carved with a bear paw on each side.  Separating them are carved cloud and rain designs. The handles are fully polished.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Madeline T.”
