This is a classic miniature seedpot by Ray Tafoya.  The piece is fully polished and round in shape.  It is one of his iconic green polished pieces.  The seedpot has a Mimbres style Big Horn Sheep as the main design.  It is surrounded by prayer feather, plant, and rain designs.  All the different colors are derived from natural clay slips with four different colors of clay added to this piece.  The eye of the ram is also the hole for the seedpot!  Note how many of the designs surrounding the butterfly are similar to ones used today by his daughter, Jennifer Tafoya.  The seedpot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom with his hallmark that means “White Mountain” in Tewa.
