Tafoya, Ray – Multi-Color Red Seedpot with Fisherman (1992-3)

This seedpot by Ray Tafoya is fully polished and is tall in shape.  It is fully polished a deep red.  There is a Mimbres fisherman as the design.  He is holding a fish and there is a fish in a “basket” on his back.  It is a creative and complex piece in design.  The remainder are geometric clouds and rain patterns.  The designs are etched into the clay and highlighted with additional colors of clay slips.  All the different colors are derived from natural clay slips.  The seedpot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom with his hallmark which means “White Mountain” in Tewa.
