Tafoya, Ray – Multi-Color Seedpot with Deer and Deer Tracks (1984)

1.75"w x 2"h

$ 600.00

This is an unusual seedpot by Ray Tafoya. The piece has a teardrop shape with the opening at the top.  It was fired a deep black coloration and etched with design.  There is a deer with trees in the forest. As the piece is turned, there are deer tracks and prayer feathers.  The top has an inset piece of turquoise hei-shi bead.  All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is a creative piece for the size.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay with his hallmark mountain, meaning “White Moutain” which was his name in Tewa.  The piece is from 1984.  The seedpot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Today, his legacy continues with the pottery of his daughter, Jennifer Tafoya.
