Tafoya-Sanchez, Linda – Jar with Bear Paws, Swirling Cloud and Rain, and Lid

5"w x 6.5"h w/Lid

$ 1,800.00

It is a complex lidded jar by Linda Tafoya-Sanchez.  The jar is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  The jar has four bear paws carved into the clay swirling from the rim to the base.  As the jar is turned, there is a band of swirling clouds. The next row has swirling wind and water designs.  The water design area near the base is slipped with mica.  Finally, the last row is the “rain”, which are seven melon ribs swirling from the shoulder to the base.  In the section with the clouds there are three inset pieces of turquoise.  The polishing on the jar is glassy and visually striking. The piece has a lid that fits into the top of the jar.  Linda is a granddaughter of Margaret Tafoya and the quality and creativity in her carving are readily apparent on this vessel!  It is signed, “Linda Tafoya-Sanchez”.
