This new carved bowl by Linda Tafoya-Sanchez is striking in design and polish. The bowl is round in shape and fully carved. On the top are 36 swirling melon ribs extending from the rim to the base. There are 27 that are polished red and separating them (every group of three red ones) is one that is slipped with black micaceous clay. It is an elegant and visually striking use of color. Note how the ribs swirl back and forth at the shoulder! The piece has a creative lid. It is polished red and has a red butterfly that is polished on both sides. The back is slipped with the same black micaceous clay. The antennae are leather. The lid sits into the top of the bowl. Both the lid and the bowl were traditionally fired to a deep red coloration. It is signed on the bottom, “Linda Tafoya-Sanchez”.
