Tafoya-Sanchez, Linda – Red & Tan Shawl Design Jar

4.5" w x 5"h

$ 1,400.00

Linda Tafoya is one of the few potters who excels at making red and tan polished pottery. The tan is the difficult part as it is a water slip which is applied to the surface and then polished.  The difficulty is that it can be streaky or not shine but Linda is able to achieve a high polish to her tan areas.  This is an elegnat design for her pottery with a “shawl” pattern  She has carved the piece as if the design is encircling the jar like a shawl.  The deeply carved areas are polished red and and are carved with traditional designs.  The piece is highly polished and there is a striking contrast between the red and tan areas.    Linda is a granddaughter of Margaret Tafoya and the quality and creativity in her carving are readily apparent on this vessel!  It is signed on the base.
