Tahbo, Alma Chapella – Bowl with Rain Cloud Designs (1960s)
Alma Chapella Tahbo (1915-1993) was a daughter of noted potter Grace Chapella. She was the mother of Deanna Tahbo and the grandmother of Mark Tahbo and Dianna Tahbo. Alma often helped her mother Grace with her pottery in the 1970s. This is one of the few signed pieces we have had by Alma. The bowl is fully polished on the outside and inside. Around the outer rim there is a painted rain and cloud design. The cloud areas are tightly painted with hachure lines. The black is painted with bee-weed and the bowl was traditionally fired. It is signed, “Alma Chapella Tahbo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
