Tahbo, Dianna – 11″ Wide Jar with Hopi Birds Design (1993)

11"w x 4.5"h

$ 2,000.00

WOW!  This is one of the largest pieces we have had from Dianna Tahbo.  She was known for her tightly painted pottery and especially her beautiful miniatures.  This jar is a classic Hopi-Tewa shape with a wide shoulder and short neck. The jar is coil-bulit and then painted with bee-weed and clay slips.  On the top of the jar are four large Hopi birds.  They are deconstructed in the style of Nampeyo of Hano.  There is the head, tail, and wings to create the swirling design.  They are separated by dragonflies.  The jar was traditionally fired to create exceptional blushes on the surface of the piece.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Dianna Tahbo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
