6"w x 5.5"h

$ 675.00

Stella Tanner (Kwa Povi) and her son Roy (Tsigowanu) began making pottery together in 1976.  Stella was a granddaughter of Luteria Atencio, a daughter of Crucita Talalchy, and a sister of Mary Gutierrez and Joe Talachy.  It was Luteria who taught them both to make pottery.   Stella made and polished the pottery and Roy etched the designs into the surface. This is the largest piece of their work we have come across.  The jar has a low shoulder and sloping sides.  The jar is fully polished.  It was etched with a large feathered water serpent.  As the jar is turned there are shard and lighting designs.  The piece was made in1986, making it one of their last pieces.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Kwa Povi & Tsigowanu”.  They stopped working around 1986 but during their brief career as potters, they won awards at Santa Fe Indian Market and  Eight Northern Indian Market.
