Ramona Tapia (1940-2003) was a daughter of noted potter Dolorita Gutierrez and a nice of Celestina Naranjo. She was the mother of Sarah, Lee, and Michelle Tapia. She was known for both her painted and carved pottery.  This is one of her black-on-black painted pieces. It is painted with a feather pattern extending down from the rim.  There are 18 feathers painted on the bowl  It is highly polished and fired to a glassy black.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ramona Tapia”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
