Ramona Tapia (1940-2003) was a daughter of noted potter Dolorita Gutierrez and a nice of Celestina Naranjo. She was the mother of Sarah, Lee, and Michelle Tapia. She was known for both her painted and carved pottery. This is one of her clay figures. The turtle is fully polished and the back is painted with cloud designs. It was fired a glassy black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ramona Tapia”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
