Tenorio, Robert – 13″ Long Double Canteen with Deer and Birds (1990s)

13.5" long x 6"h

$ 1,200.00

This large double canteen by Robert Tenorio. It is an amazing shape to create.  The piece is coil-built and the canteen on each side is round and each has an opposite pointing spout.  They are connected by a hollow chamber in the center along with a handle. One side has different birds.  The opposite side has a deer, antelope, and Big Horn Sheep.  They are also surrounded by flowers.  The piece was slipped with white clay and then painted with wild spinach (black) and red clay to accent the designs. The piece was then traditionally fired.  After the firing, there is a beaded area on the top of the handle!  It’s amazing that a piece like this can be coil-built, let alone survive an outdoor firing!   It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert Tenorio, Kewa”.  It was made in 1990s.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
