This is a creative fully painted jar by Robert Tenorio. The jar is painted with wild spinach (black) on a cream-colored clay slip base. The jar has a round shoulder and a sloping neck. The exterior has a sun design around the neck and a star pattern around the shoulder. The interior has an impressed handprint in the center. There are two fish that are painted on the inside walls of the jar! Looking inside the jar is as if there are fish swimming in the piece. Note on one side of the design there is a “heartline” that extends from the rim through the designs. This is a break in the painted design and a traditional aspect of Kewa pottery. The jar was traditionally fired outdoors. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Robert Tenorio, Kewa”. It was made in 2004. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
